If your patients are uninsured or cannot afford medication, there are several programs and services available to them.
Patients 65 and over may be eligible for Medicare Part D, Medicare’s prescription drug program. If your patient is already a Medicare recipient, he or she is automatically eligible for this program. In order to enroll, your patient will need to find a local plan. Plans can differ significantly, so patients should be aware of all the options. The Medicare Part D section of this web site has more information.
Even if your patient has private insurance, he or she may still have trouble filling in coverage gaps. His or her insurance company may also deny a claim. If your patients need help paying co-payments or have reached a benefit cap, there are foundations and charities that can provide assistance. The More Resources section offers a list of these organizations.
A Patient Support Coordinator (PSC) can begin a benefits investigation and determine whether prior authorization is required. When a claim has been denied, a PSC can work with you to appeal that claim.
In addition, patients may apply for free product from Celgene. Medicare Part D patients will receive free product for the remainder of the calendar year.
For commercial insurance patients or patients with no insurance, free product assistance is assessed every six months.
Your patient will need your help applying for this aid. You must obtain, complete and fax the appropriate forms to Celgene on your patient’s behalf.
Here is the application.
You can also call a Patient Support Coordinator (PSC) to get started on the application process. The Free Product section shows you how to apply.
Additionally, there are several organizations that might also be able to provide financial assistance to your patients. The More Resources section offers a list you can share with your patients.
